Johnstown, CO is a town located 30 miles north of Denver and approximately 5 miles east of Loveland. The town is located at the base of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains and is known for its beautiful mountain views. Johnstown is a rapidly growing community with a population of about 18,000. It is a popular place to live for those who want to be close to the city but still enjoy a more rural setting.

Culture and Activities in Johnstown -

Johnstown is located in the heart of Colorado's Front Range. This small town offers one main community event throughout the year, the popular Johnstown BBQ Day, which is hosted annually in June. There are many popular locally-owned restaurants, including Johnstown Lunch Box, Los Dos Garcia’s, and Black Sheep Coffee and Crepes. In addition, you can’t forget to stop by the host of the world famous cinnamon rolls, Johnson’s Corner, which now serves up over 15,000 cinnamon rolls monthly for their restaurant and online sales! While the city of Johnstown isn’t super active and bustling with things to do, the draw to this area is the quieter atmosphere with the ability to visit Greeley, Loveland, or Fort Collins within 15 minutes, and even Denver is only a 45-minute drive.

Johnstown Economy -

While the town of Johnstown is smaller, the area that it covers is wide and stretches into some booming economic areas in Northern Colorado. The southeast side of the major corridor of I-25 and US-34 belongs to the city of Johnstown. This area hosts some very large retailers, one of which is Sheels, an incredible retail store worthy of spending a few hours exploring. While you are there, swing in across the street and visit Liberty Firearms Institute which hosts an indoor shooting range and firearms instruction. There are also many other retailers and employers in this area including FedEx Ground, Coca-Cola, and Carrier West, providing abundant opportunities for the local residents to partake in a booming area just outside of their small-town atmosphere.

Education in Johnstown -

Johnstown is served by two school districts, with the majority falling into Weld RE-5J School District, which carries a C+ rating on Niche.com, and an average rating on greatschools.org. A smaller portion of the kids who are located in the northwest portion of the city will attend Thompson R2-J School District. For higher education, folks will need to explore the nearby communities of Greeley (University of Northern Colorado), Fort Collins (Colorado State University), or Boulder (Colorado University).

  1. A meteorite fell in the adjacent former town of Elwell on the afternoon of 6 July 1924, and became known as the Johnstown meteorite
  2. The area was first platted in 1902 by Harvey J. Parish and named for his son, John.
  3. In 1907 it was incorporated and began serving as a supply center for many surrounding agricultural communities. Farming is still an important part of the town’s identity today, and much of the original architecture can still be found on Parish Avenue.
